Come to the first Club night of the year on 13 February to enjoy Anthony John Clarke – a seasoned, tried and tested troubadour who has graced the UK and world folk scene for 25 years. Listen to a preview of his music.

Although early in the year, the LFMCI committee has swung into action and is discussing and planning the year ahead.  Dale will continue as Acting Chair until the AGM and the committee is pleased to have the assistance of Colin and Rona for the remainder of this term. We appreciate that some members have taken on key tasks which help with the smooth running of the Club.  The committee would encourage and welcome any other offers, especially with club nights, where an extra pair of hands would be most appreciated.

There is also a concert by Steve Turner at Cavan & Penelope Haines home in Otaki on February 14th – see the poster for details

October Club Night

October Club Night

Levin Folk Club Night for October

Come along on the Friday 10th and enjoy a great nights entertainment. Doors open a 7.00 p.m.

First half is an open blackboard – come and join in!

After a light supper enjoy a foot tapping and entertaining performance by My Pennyworth.

They are singer/songwriters who identify themselves with folk music, but entertain with so much more. There is a little bit of country, rock, pop and blues in their songs that tell stories about love, dreams, places, and their Celtic heritage.

My Pennyworth will enthral with a selection of instruments that includes guitar, keyboard, accordion, bodhran, penny whistle …and bagpipes! Audiences are soon tapping their toes while clapping along to a rocky beat, swaying to a waltz, and invariably singing along to some catchy choruses.

June Newsletter

June Newsletter

OUR GUEST ARTIST on June 13th is Dave Murphy – a finger-style, blues picking guitar legend and one of New Zealand’s best interpreters of the blues. Dave plays in the style of Mississippi John Hurt, Robert Johnson and a whole host of other blues legends.
Back in the late ’80s Dave spent time touring the US, meeting and playing with some of the great blues figures.
Over the years since, he has developed his own fingerpicking guitar style as good as any of those from whom he learnt his craft.
In 2008 Dave released a DVD/CD called ‘Yes that’s Me’ produced by Costa Botes and Carol Bean, to wide acclaim from both critics and peers.
Dave’s finger style guitar work continues to delight audiences wherever he plays. He is equally at home with the gentle blues of Mississippi John Hurt to the more driving blues of Big Bill Broonzy and Robert Johnson.

With over thirty years experience of playing, Dave has performed the length and breadth of NZ as well as in England, Europe, the USA and Australia. He has performed with Marg Layton, Darren Watson, Ted Clarke and international artists such as Champion Jack Dupree, Robert Lockwood Jnr, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, Eugene Powell, James “Son” Thomas and Willie Foster.
