9 December 2022 – Cotton Daisy Backstep

From deep within the Appalachian Old-time traditions, Cotton Daisy Backstep bring the songs of the pioneers, old gospels and their own dark originals.

Helena Faust carried a wealth of tradition with her when she moved back to NZ in 2003 after 10 years steeped in the local traditions of West Virginia.

With strong mountain vocals, wailing harmonies, clawhammer banjo and fiddle, the old haunting ballads and songs are brought to life.

Cotton Daisy Backstep group consists of Helena Faust – banjo and lead vocals, Bill Vella – bass, Philip Muollo – Guitar, and Megan Ward – fiddle and harmony vocals.

Doors open at 7:00 pm and the evening begins at 7:30 pm with a blackboard of performers. The guests perform after supper.

The venue is the Horowhenua Scottish Society Hall, 155 Bartholomew Road, corner Bartholomew Road and Middlesex Street, Levin.
